Do Not Skip The Ending That Looks Wrong
The Adventures of Elliot bad ending is easy to dismiss because it appears before the real finale and clearly leaves questions unresolved. That is the trap. If you care about every stamp, trophy, or achievement, the Bad Ending should be handled as soon as it becomes available.
This page contains late-game route names and boss instructions, but it avoids story explanation beyond what you need to unlock the route.
When The Bad Ending Becomes Available
The Bad Ending opens after the Age of Budding Dragonpillar events. Calotesia points you toward the Tracing Needle in the Age of Reconstruction, and after you obtain it, returning to the Kingdom of Huther sends you toward Northern Tower in the Age of Safekeeping.
That is your window. The game is not asking you to finish every hidden requirement yet. It is putting the first ending route in front of you.
| Route marker | What it means |
|---|---|
| Dragonpillar events complete | You are entering late-game route territory |
| Calotesia mentions the needle | Follow the Age of Reconstruction lead |
| Tracing Needle obtained | Make a safety save |
| Northern Tower objective appears | Bad Ending is ready |
How To Unlock The Bad Ending
Enter Northern Tower in the Age of Safekeeping and descend to the boss at the bottom. At this stage, the boss is known as The Sorcerer in the saved source material.
Fight normally. You do not need Leytstaf, Mystic Seal, Amber Pendant, cat progress, or perfect guards. Defeat the boss with ordinary attacks and the Bad Ending will play.
The ending awards the As Long as Any Hope Remains achievement or trophy and places a bronze-colored stamp on the save file. Afterward, use the clear save to return to the world and continue toward the other endings.
Why It Is Missable
The Bad Ending and Good Ending are optional stops. Once you proceed too far into the True Ending route, earlier ending access can be lost. Sources describe this as less of a three-way fork and more like a road with two stops before the real destination.
That is why the safest route is not “save every ending for later.” The safer route is:
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Get the Tracing Needle |
| 2 | Save |
| 3 | Take the Bad Ending |
| 4 | Reload the clear save |
| 5 | Work toward Leytstaf and Mystic Seal |
You are not ruining your playthrough by seeing the Bad Ending. You are cleaning up a route marker before it becomes inconvenient.
How To Continue Afterward
After reloading the clear save, your next target is the Good Ending. That means getting Leytstaf from the Water Ruins in the Age of Reconstruction and completing the sage route that teaches Mystic Seal.
When you return to the Northern Tower boss for the Good Ending, do not fight the same way. You need the charged Mystic Seal to be the finishing action. If you beat the boss with normal attacks again, you can repeat the Bad Ending result.
After the Good Ending, reload again and move toward True Ending preparation: age story events, cats, Amber Pendant, and perfect guards. The Bad Ending is the first step, not the end of the save file.
What To Check Before You Go In
| Check | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Side quests | Finish active missables if the quest menu warns you |
| Healing | Bring enough to survive one clean boss attempt |
| Backup save | Keep one before Northern Tower if possible |
| Completion goals | Take the Bad Ending now, not after true-route cleanup |
If you are only playing for story and do not care about completion, you can move past it. For trophy or achievement players, however, skipping this route creates needless risk.
FAQ
What triggers The Adventures of Elliot bad ending?
Defeat the Northern Tower boss normally after getting the Tracing Needle and reaching the ending route.
Do I need any special item for the Bad Ending?
No. Special requirements such as Leytstaf, Mystic Seal, Amber Pendant, and cat progress belong to later routes.
Can I keep playing after the Bad Ending?
Yes. The game lets you use a clear save so you can return to the world and continue.
Is the Bad Ending required for New Game Plus?
The saved sources tie New Game Plus to the True Ending, not the Bad Ending. The Bad Ending is still important for completion stamps.
Should I do the Bad Ending before side quest cleanup?
If the quest menu warns that quests are about to become unavailable, clear those first. Otherwise, taking the Bad Ending at its first opening is the safer route.
