Route Cats By Age, Not By Memory

The Adventures of Elliot cat locations are easy to lose track of because the same world changes across four ages. A cat near a familiar landmark in one age does not prove the same spot is cleared in another age.

Use age-by-age cleanup. That matches the way saved guides split the collectible set, and it keeps the map from becoming a blur of similar fields, ruins, and guideposts.

Before You Start The Checklist

Do three things before you hunt every cat:

RequirementWhy it matters
Complete Capricious NeighborsThis activates cat collection
Get the Magic Compass and Cat NeedleCat icons make cleanup much safer
Unlock the major traversal powersSome cats sit behind dungeon, cave, or ending-route gates

If you do not have the Cat Needle yet, collect enough early cats to reach the 5-cat reward. After that, use the map to confirm whether a dungeon or cave still contains a cat.

Age-By-Age Cat Count

Saved source material breaks the cat pool across the four ages. The exact route will depend on your current abilities, but the age counts are the useful planning layer.

AgeCount noted in sourcesRoute advice
Age of Safekeeping13 total, including the two quest catsClear town and early fields first, then revisit old dungeons
Age of Reconstruction12Sweep Littlehope, Whiterea, bridges, and quest-locked areas
Age of Magic13Expect more ability and true-ending gates
Age of Budding12Save some cleanup for after late traversal powers

Do not panic if your count is short after a first pass. Cat locations list includes cats tied to later routes, and some are easier to confirm after you can inspect location names on the map.

Safe Cleanup Loop

  1. Pick one age.
  2. Fast travel to every guidepost in that age.
  3. Check nearby outdoor areas before entering dungeons.
  4. Open the map and inspect dungeons or caves for cat icons.
  5. Clear only the marked interiors.
  6. Return to the Ailurophilic Traveler and verify the count.

This loop avoids the worst completion mistake: walking through every dungeon again even when the map already tells you no cat remains there.

Areas To Recheck First

For a practical first pass, start with locations that appear repeatedly in saved source notes: Eastern Fields of Flon or Hucarea, Neverwither, Whiterea, Westerea, Huther, and dungeon entrances near guideposts.

Cats often sit just off the main path, near fences, bridges, guideposts, town edges, or side rooms. If a cat bolts, stop chasing in a straight line. Circle, slow down, and approach from a side path.

FAQ

How many cat locations are there?

There are 50 cats total, spread across the Age of Safekeeping, Age of Reconstruction, Age of Magic, and Age of Budding.

Do I need every cat for the true ending?

The late true-ending route checks for at least 35 cats. All 50 are for full cleanup and the final cat reward.

Why are some cats not on my map?

You may need the Cat Needle, Magic Compass progress, a later traversal power, or true-ending route progress before the cat is reachable or easy to track.

Should I clear cats before manuscripts?

Clear them together by age. Cats, manuscripts, chests, and Shards of Life often share the same revisit routes.
